The Latest Relaxed Game Mode Sparks Heated Discussions Regarding Bots, XP Rewards, and Wait Times

Over the weekend, Battlefield Studios introduced a new game mode titled Casual Breakthrough. To put it simply, this mode resembles the regular Breakthrough format but includes several key changes:

  • Each team includes only 8 real players, with the remaining filled by 32 bots.
  • Actions done by human gamers grant complete experience points, while AI activities offer reduced XP.
  • Just a pair of locations are available: Siege of Cairo and Empire State map.
  • Elements like Dogtags, accolades, and stat tracking have been turned off.

In short, this mode lives up to its name: it's a casual version of Breakthrough. On the surface, you might think there's nothing wrong, as it provides additional choices for players looking for alternative ways to enjoy the game. But, gaming history has shown one thing, it is that not everyone will be happy. In other words, many Battlefield 6 fans are mad.

Community Reactions: From Fury to Support

"People want human opponents. Don't repeat the mistakes of your competitors," reads a response to the mode reveal. "Truly disappointing concept," comments another. Meanwhile, on the Battlefield subreddit, a player remarks, "I have no idea where we are going with this game," and someone else lists everything they believe to be problematic in Battlefield 6: "Resolve glitches, address drone issues, fix IVF rockets, adjust aiming after sprinting, fix awful hit registration. We do not require this bot mode."

On the other hand, amid the criticism, there are players explaining how much they're liking the new mode. "It's enjoyable to warm up, real players prevent it from being a total farmfest but it's quite laid-back," says a forum post. "This subreddit fails to see that there are gamers who actually go outside and don't play this title 24/7. Let them find a middle ground," adds another. A response via social media clarifies that as they're "a battledad with busy schedules, this is perfect for me," and another praises the mode for "avoiding intense competition."

Constructive Concerns and Community Feedback

Despite the support, there are constructive reasons to complain about the new mode. Some users have pointed out that it could increase wait times more extended for different playlists because of the large amount of playlists in the game already. On a similar note, certain regions often face AI-filled matches in the existing playlists. It also seems somewhat counterintuitive that the mode won't start without a required amount of human gamers, despite it primarily centers on combat against bots.

Lastly, one of the biggest complaints is that Battlefield Portal was promised to offer full XP, including AI matches, but that got canned when they tried to eliminate XP farming from the mode. Thus this new playlist seems like the community meeting them halfway, as per a Reddit comment. Another labels this addition as the devs "dropping the ball significantly, I had great enjoyment in the first couple of days, what prompted them to adjust it?"

Looking Ahead: Will Changes Be Made?

If Battlefield Studios has demonstrated something so far with Battlefield 6, it is that they're listening and acting on player input. Tasks that were overly hard got fixed rapidly, as did the required Redsec challenges. Chances are that, if their data indicates this recent mode is underperforming to their expectations, they will not hesitate to make further modifications.
