The Baldur's Gate 3 Creators Reveal a Latest Divinity, Calling it Their Largest RPG Ever

The speculation around The Game Awards was significant, notably after host Geoff Keighley posted a mysterious image of a strange statue. The question has been revealed. The acclaimed developer is developing a brand-new Divinity game.

Titled simply Divinity, the game was showcased with a daring trailer packed with striking imagery, from a burning man to scenes of revelry and the literal unleashing of hell.

Moving Beyond Original Sin

For those anticipating Divinity Original Sin 3, this is not that. The studio clarified that a third Original Sin game to its beloved RPGs is not on the cards right now.

However, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a next chapter of the main series. This distinction implies that the team could be designing a real-time experience as opposed to another tactical title. At this moment, this is speculation, as only a cinematic trailer is available.

What Makes Divinity Special

The Divinity series is widely praised and it's fair to claim it sparked the modern wave of complex computer role-playing games. These games are known for detailed worlds, branching plots, and flexible progression—elements that recently reached new heights in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its world is classic fantasy, what truly sets Divinity apart is the remarkable agency bestowed upon the player.

Where many modern RPGs have streamlined options, Divinity is packed with niche playthroughs you can achieve with a distinct build with a unique decision path.

The series is also wonderfully flexible, allowing players to improvise both in story and combat. Most missions can be completed in multiple ways, often in unexpected fashion.

  • You might find an answer because you remembered something a non-human character said.
  • Or, you could overcome an obstacle by teleporting a glob of lava in a inventive way.

More to Come

It is these creative systems that lead fans and critics to hail games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as one of the best role-playing games in history. Now, the RPG community can look forward to more where that came from in this esteemed franchise.
