Diving into an Unique Steam Game Trial: Playing as a Turdy Character on a Quest to Arrive at the Toilet
Steam Next Fest is now live, and players have discovered plenty of interesting creations from small studios. However, one catches the eye for its offbeat concept. Titled Unko Technica, this classic-feel side-scrolling game includes a character that is truly a piece of poop striving to travel to a restroom. In case you're wondering, "Unko" is Japanese for "poop."
Player controls is straightforward: just use a one button to leap. Across 150 levels, encounter boss fights and unlock a store to buy customizations for your poop character.
Time your jumps carefully, since one mistake means restarting the level. Jump off floating orbs to hurl the poop to new heights, cross crumbling platforms, and interact with triggers to unlock hidden paths. Earn coins to purchase more difficult stages as things gets crazy.
In terms of design, the game boasts neon stages and a killer background music. Its minimalist art of shifting abstract forms evokes memories of players of classic titles like Earthbound.
While it's tough to think of other games where you control a dung character, interactive entertainment often included toilet humor. As an illustration, in Death Stranding, players craft grenades from protagonist waste. Titles such as Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved utilize manure as plant food. Naturally, such content shows up extensively in Obsidian's role-playing game The Stick of Truth.
Despite its silly idea, Unko Technica has already garnered significant accolades, such as being named best at a major publisher's indie contest in 2023. A playable preview is ready at present on Steam, with the complete version scheduled to launch on PC in the fall.
